The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) participated in the 4th Arab Digital Content Forum, which is conducted from October 5-7, 2020 via video conferencing technology, under the theme “The Future of Arabic Content on the Internet”. The event is organized by the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC) under the auspices of the League of Arab States and in collaboration with CRA of Qatar, the Arab Information and Communication Technologies Organization (AICTO), the UN Economic and Social Commission for West Asia (ESCWA), the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
The CRA participated in the first session that was conducted on October 5, under the title: “The Reality of Digital Arabic Content”, along with representatives from Qatar Scientific Club and Qatar Computing Research Institute. The session discussed the reasons for the weak presence of Arabic digital content on the Internet, and the importance of preserving the Arab digital identity from disappearing, in addition to discussing the challenges of digitization from a technical perspective, and the impact of artificial intelligence in promoting Arabic content. Participants also exchanged their views and experiences in this field.
“We are pleased with our participation in this session, where we discussed the current reality of digital Arabic content on the Internet and the challenges that face digitizing the Arabic content. In addition to the importance of using the currently available technologies and solutions like the usages of artificial intelligence to enhance the strengthen of digital Arabic content in various fields and sectors. We also exchanged our views about the importance of supporting the innovations and breakthroughs in this field which will contribute to the development of Arab digital content,” said Eng. Abdulla Jassmi, Technical Affairs Department Manager, CRA.
It is worth to mention that the Forum focuses on the Arabic digital content, its advancement and challenges. It also discusses the importance of Arabic digital content during crises and the role it has played in the current Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) situation and learnings from this for other crises. Besides, His Excellency Mohammed Ali Al-Mannai, President of CRA opened the Forum on October 5, 2020, with the attendance of high-level officials from the League of Arab States, AICTO, ESCWA, ALECSO and ITU.
