The Supreme Council for Information and Communication Technology (ictQATAR) today announced the launch of a public consultation on a draft Radio Spectrum Fees Policy and Fees Schedule. ictQATAR invites informed comments from interested parties. The closing date for submission of comments is Sunday, June 23, 2013.
“As demand for radio spectrum has grown, it has become increasingly important to ensure that all of the available radio spectrum is used in the most efficient and effective manner,” said Saleh Al-Kuwari, Deputy Assistant Secretary-General, Regulatory Authority, ictQATAR. “Radio Spectrum Fees have become an important tool used by spectrum management organizations to encourage efficient spectrum use and discourage licensees from acquiring or retaining more spectrum than they actually need,” he added.
Under the proposed new Schedule of Radio Spectrum Fees, no fees will be payable when radio spectrum is used in accordance with a Class Radio Frequency License, however, fees will be applied for the use of radio spectrum under Individual Radio Spectrum Licenses granted by ictQATAR.
ictQATAR has drawn on best international practices in developing the draft Schedule of Radio Spectrum Fees with the goal of ensuring transparency, objectivity and fairness, whilst retraining administrative simplicity, in setting fees for radio spectrum use.
All interested parties are invited to provide their comments and views to the Regulatory Authority by June 23, 2013. Comments should be submitted by email to: pharris@ict.gov.qa or in writing.
