The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) participates in the Study Group 20 (SG20) of the Telecommunication Standardization Sector within the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), which is held at the ITU headquarters, Geneva, Switzerland from January 30 - February 10, 2023.
The meeting reviews contributions addressed to SG20, presents highlights of various conferences, meetings, and groups associated to the Study Group, looks into preparations for the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly 2024 (WTSA-24), and reviews various related reports.
During the meeting, CRA contributed a paper titled: “Protecting the Privacy of Internet of things (IoT) Users”. The paper outlined CRA's rationales behind submitting this contribution, addressed related challenges and associated risks, and finally, highlighted CRA's proposal in this regard.
The ITU is the United Nations' specialized agency for Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs), driving innovation in ICTs together with 193 Member States and a membership of over 900 companies, universities, and international and regional organizations. SG20 develops international standards to enable the coordinated development of IoT technologies in smart cities, including machine-to-machine communications and ubiquitous sensor networks. This Study Group is also involved in studies relating to big data aspects of IoT and smart cities and communities.
CRA takes part in the SG20 meeting to exchange views and experiences with the stakeholders and effectively be part of the key discussions to contribute to the development of international standards related to the ICT field. CRA ensures developing regulations that are in line with the best international standards in the field, ensure supporting technological innovation, accelerate sustainable digital transformation in the State of Qatar, and that consumers in Qatar have the best experience with telecom services.
