The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) participated in the Second FIFA World Broadcaster Meeting organized by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) at the Grand Hyatt Doha Hotel on March 29, 2022.
The meeting was attended by representatives of Media Rights Licensees (MRLs). The CRA participated in the demo hall of the meeting as it’s the responsible authority for regulating and managing all the affairs related to the use of the radio spectrum as well as is the competent authority to approve the radiocommunications and telecom terminal equipment in Qatar.
Through its participation, the CRA aimed to familiarize MRLs with the applicable procedures for obtaining radio spectrum, testing and tagging, in addition to the procedures followed by CRA with respect to monitoring the spectrum before and during the event to ensure the optimal use of radio spectrum in Qatar.
It is worth mentioning that the CRA is one of the entities classified as a service provider for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ in all the matters that fall under its mandate, through managing, assigning, licensing, and monitoring the use of radio spectrum to ensure that stakeholders use and operate various radiocommunications stations during the event in the manner as required in high-quality, without interruption as a result of radio interferences or other technical matters related to operation and may affect their operational or organizational procedures, or on the event’s media coverage.
The CRA published in November 2020 the Spectrum Plan for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, in line with the FIFA milestones to publish the spectrum plan two years before the start of the event by the responsible authority in the host country. The Plan considers all the aspects related to hosting this international event from a spectrum perspective, to achieve the desired success for the event before and during hosting it in the State of Qatar.
