ictQATAR Seeking Comments on Strategic Sector Review

Public Consultation on Findings and Policy Recommendations Open Until 20 March 2011

ictQATAR is seeking comments on a consultation document published that details findings from an extensive analysis of the telecommunications market in Qatar and makes policy recommendations for the sectors continued development. Telecom operators and interested parties are invited to submit responses to the consultation by 20 March 2011.

The Regulatory Authority at ictQATAR is performing this strategic sector review, which assesses the sec¬tor's performance against the five main objectives of liberalization, namely: to encourage competition, to increase customer benefits, to support the health of the industry, to create sustainable investments, and to encourage ubiquitous services.

The primary objectives of this public consultation are:

  • Share the findings of extensive analyses of the telecom market in Qatar performed between June and mid-November 2010;
  • Involve the operators and other stakeholders in assessing the sector and developing recommendations that will improve it over the next few years; and
  • Solicit input into policy recommendations that ictQATAR is considering for promoting continued development of the sector.


This consultation is not intended to be an exhaustive analysis of the telecom sector in Qatar. Its purpose is to point out some of the most important issues affecting the market and provide room for telecom operators and interested parties to comment and share their views on the sector's development.

Telecom operators and all interested parties should submit responses to the consultation following the procedures set out in Section 6 of the consultation document. The Regulatory Authority will take into account all the responses received in preparing the final document of the Strategic Sector Review, which will be published upon completion.
