Qatar Participates in the Meeting of the UPU’s Council of Administration

 

A Qatari delegation from the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) and Qatar Postal Services Company (Qatar Post) is participating in the second regular session of the Universal Postal Union’s (UPU) Council of Administration (CA) meeting of 2022, which is held at the UPU International Bureau in Berne, Switzerland from October 24-28, 2022.

 

The State of Qatar is participating in the meeting as a board member of the CA, which consists of 41 member countries. The meeting includes discussions about various matters related to the postal sector and the UPU, it includes discussions about the CA work program 2022-2025 and the UPU Extraordinary Congress 2023. Additionally, the meeting will review reports submitted by the CA, the Postal Operations Council (POC), and committees under the CA like Governance and Management of the Union Committee, Postal Policy and Regulation Committee, Strategy, Postal Economics and Markets Committee, and Development Cooperation and Technical Assistance Committee.

 

On the sidelines of the meeting, the delegation from the State of Qatar will co-chair, with the Republic of Belarus, the Development Cooperation and Technical Assistance Committee meeting, on Wednesday the 26th of October 2022. The meeting’s agenda includes discussions about various issues related to the Committee, which considers and implements Universal Postal Congress decisions concerning technical cooperation among member countries. During the meeting, the participants will go over papers, presentations, and memorandums on a variety of topics, including the UPU Global Development Cooperation Strategy for 2022-2025.

 

Through these meetings, the State of Qatar contributes, along with other member countries, to shaping the future of the global postal sector for the better,which will have a direct effect on the development of the postal sector in Qatar and other local sectors associated with postal services. Thus, the consumers will receive more advanced and high-quality postal services.

 

The UPU is a United Nations specialized agency and one of the world’s oldest international organizations. The UPU is the primary forum for cooperation between postal sector players and has 192 member countries; Qatar has been a member of the UPU since 1969. The CA ensures the continuity of the UPU's work between the Universal Postal Congresses, which convenes every four years, supervises its activities and studies regulatory, administrative, legislative, and legal issues. The CA can also take measures it considers necessary to resolve urgent issues.
