Regulatory Authority issues IPv6 National Implementation Strategy

Towards a Smooth and Timely Migration to the IPv6 in the State of Qatar

ictQATAR has issued the IPv6 National Implementation Strategy to facilitate and manage the transition to the new Internet Protocol enabling future growth in Qatar.

Supporting the rapid development in the State of Qatar requires an advanced ICT infrastructure capable of meeting the demand this generates. The resultant growth of demand for IP address space can only be satisfied in the future by introducing IPv6.

Considering the importance of the Internet Protocol and the early adoption of the IPv6, Regulatory Authority has prepared this detailed strategy based on its recent study on the IPv6 readiness status across the State of Qatar’s IP ecosystem.

This national strategy provides a framework for the well-coordinated and orchestrated adoption of IPv6 across the national ecosystem by ensuring the various building blocks are in place in a timely manner to enable end-user organizations to progressively move to IPv6.

The key for supporting the IPv6 readiness program will be the launch of the Qatar IPv6 task force. This will bring together all the key stakeholders into one body. The task force will also have a coordinating role to allow stakeholders to share information, provide a link between end users and service providers.
