Marking the World Consumer Rights Day that falls March 15, the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) of the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology launched a new smartphone application in a major initiative to enhance transparency and enable consumers to contribute to improving the services in Qatar.
The application named "Arsel", which means "Send" in Arabic, was launched at a press conference at the Ministry headquarters, in the presence of H.E. Dr. Hessa Al-Jaber, Minister of Information and Communications Technology.
With "Arsel", dissatisfied consumers are now able to send instant comments and feedbacks to CRA directly with one touch on their smartphones. CRA will be using these feedbacks in enhancing and improving the quality of services. The program also features an interactive map where consumers' comments about network quality can be seen. The map is to be updated every 48 hours. Consumers also can test their internet speed.
Consumers who had "Arsel" will be able to log in to the program with their Qatari ID numbers. Each consumer can send a maximum of 5 complaints per day. Complaints will show up on the interactive map in the event of several consumers having reported the same complaint in a specific area.
"The Communications Regulatory Authority is launching the app Arsel in order to enhance the principle of transparency and empower consumers to contribute to improving telecommunications services in Qatar. The use of this application and the attendant disputes over the purpose of the use are subject to the laws applicable in the State of Qatar,' said Dr. Eiman Al-Ansari, Consumer and Government Affairs Manager, CRA.
"Arsel" is available on Android, iOS and BlackBerry.
Dr. Eiman has also invited people in Qatar to join the CRA in marking the World Consumer Rights Day on Saturday, March 15, at Ezdan Mall, in a unique day featuring several awareness-raising activities for telecommunication services consumers, plus activities for the kids.
