Following the consultation with the relevant stakeholders (including the telecommunications service providers in Qatar and relevant government entities) on the draft license for “Starlink Satellite Qatar W.L.L.” that was conducted by the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) during the period from 23 June to 24 July 2022, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology granted on 28 September 2022 an Individual License for the Provision of Public Satellite Telecommunications Networks and Services to "Starlink Satellite Qatar W.L.L."

This license is expected to support the further development of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector in Qatar in several aspects, including:

  1. Enhancing the availability of Telecommunications Services in remote locations away from the mainland, especially in areas where the services of the current licensed companies are not fully available (e.g., oil and gas platforms at sea, ships, yachts, aircraft).
  2. Providing complementary and alternative telecommunications services for consumers (individuals and enterprises).
  3. Providing important back-up communications throughout the State of Qatar in the events of emergency and major outages.
The license includes the scope of the authorized networks and services, the terms and conditions and the key obligations of the licensee.
