CRA Confirms Implementation of the Fourth Phase of Reduced GCC Price Caps for Roaming Charges

The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) confirms that, as of April 1, 2019, telecom service providers in Qatar have implemented the fourth phase of the regulation on reducing retail price caps for roaming charges within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

This year the fourth phase requires the service providers to reduce the retail price cap of mobile data to QAR 1.82/Mbyte (decreased by around 17% from April 1, 2018). This price cap is a ceiling and the service providers are free to compete by setting prices below this regulatory cap in order to provide more attractive offers to the consumers.

It is worth mentioning that the first three phases were implemented on April 1 of 2016, of 2017 and of 2018, and included significant reductions of retail price caps for roaming charges for mobile data, voice calls and SMS services.
