CRA Encourages IPv6 Strategy Implementation through Technical Training

Training delivered by specialized experts from RIPE NCC

Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) in collaboration with Réseaux IP Européens Network Coordination Centre (RIPE NCC) organized highly technical training courses to develop capacity in Qatar’s ICT sector and to build national competencies in Internet resources management.  Another key objective behind the training was to engage with stakeholders and encourage them to play their part in the implementation of IPv6.

Qatar’s IPv6 Strategy, developed by the Qatar Domains Registry (QDR), emphasizes that IPv6 adoption is key to addressing the exponential growth and demand for IP addresses not only in Qatar but in the rest of the world.

The three training courses, conducted on December 7, 8 and 9, were specifically designed to train Local Internet Registry (LIR) staff capable of delivering, deploying and managing policies and procedures related to the request and distribution of internet resources in the region.  Beside the LIR training course, RIPE NCC delivered two more courses – namely; RIPE Database Training Course and Basic IPv6 Training Course.

The training sessions were moderated by the RIPE NCC team with extensive expertise in IPv6 transition and deployment. The training courses were attended by professionals representing government entities and private companies – including CRA, Ministry of Information & Communications Technology, Ooredoo, Vodafone Qatar, The Gate – involved in communications services to end users in the State of Qatar. After the training, trainees were able to drive and support the IPv6 deployment in the state of Qatar.
