CRA Provides Radiocommunication Support for Superbike World Championship Final 2017

CRA approved 300 different types of radio equipment and assign 93 different temporary frequencies in support of the event

The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) met the substantial radiocommunication requirements of Losail Circuit Sports Club for the Superbike World Championship 2017 held from November 02 – 04, 2017. CRA approved 300 different types of radio equipment such as walkie-talkies and wireless cameras with 93 different temporary frequencies.

Qatar hosted the final round of the Superbike World Championship at the Losail International Circuit for the fourth consecutive year. Losail Circuit Sports Club organized the event in cooperation with Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) with CRA playing a major supporting role in line with its national mandate of managing and allocating scarce resources such as the radio spectrum.

CRA met the needs of the organizers within a short time period and extended its full support for the timely release of imported equipment shipped to Qatar in cooperation with the concerned authorities.

The organizers used CRA’s award winning the E-Spectrum Services Portal to submit their requests to use the temporary frequencies. The E-Spectrum Portal, launched in January 2017, is the public interface of the CRA’s Automated Frequency Management System (AFMS). The E-Spectrum Portal allows spectrum users to submit applications online for issuing, modifying, or canceling their spectrum licenses. Users can also view active licenses, track submitted applications, register radio network/ area deployments, view invoices and make online payments.

Large-scale events typically require the use of the radio spectrum for activities such as broadcast coverage, surveillance, managing spectators and security, and high-quality radiocommunication within assigned bands of the radio spectrum is essential for smooth operations. CRA continues to play crucial role in the success of these high profile events within its mandate and will continue to support all future events.
