In line with Qatar’s IPv6 Implementation Strategy, the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) in collaboration with Réseaux IP Européens Network Coordination Centre (RIPE NCC) has conducted a technical training workshop on Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6). Held from May 16 to 18, the objective of the training is to build participants’ technical capacities to accommodate the applications and services related to IPv6, and to ensure a smooth transition to the latest version within the coming years.
Developed by CRA’s Qatar Domains Registry, the Strategy emphasizes the adoption of IPv6 as essential to satisfy the growing demand for IP address space in Qatar and the rest of the world, as is an important part of an advanced ICT infrastructure to support Qatar’s rapid economic, cultural and social development.
Attended by Internet Service Providers (ISPs), government entities, educational institutions, and private companies, the training workshop was delivered by experts from RIPE NCC who have extensive expertise in IPv6 transition and deployment. The training helped build trainees’ technical expertise to drive and support the IPv6 deployment in the state of Qatar.
“Adopting IPv6 is vital for increasing Qatar’s IP address capacity within the ICT sector and to maintain Qatar’s ability to communicate effectively with the rest of the world via the Internet. CRA workshops such as these help build national competencies in Internet resource management and by actively engaging with key stakeholders in the local Internet community we encourage them to play their part in the implementation of IPv6,” said Faisal Al-Shuaibi, CRA Spokesperson.
“We are enthusiastic about empowering the local community, which comes within our strategic partnership with CRA in Qatar. This can translate into positive gains in terms of capacity and talent building. The training course provides technical people in Doha with a unique opportunity to become experts in IPv6 and support real knowledge exchange for IPv6 deployment locally and regionally,” said Paul Rendek, Director of External Relations at the RIPE NCC.
CRA appreciated the support and cooperation from all participating organizations. CRA plans to organize more such training workshops to build local technical expertise and capacity.
