Mobile Number Portability will soon be available in Qatar. By the end of January 2013, consumers will be able to retain their existing mobile number when switching to a different service provider. This empowers consumers with the ability to more freely choose the best service provider to meet their needs, and is an important part of the ongoing liberalization of Qatar’s telecommunications market.
Consumers wishing to change service providers and keep their existing mobile number should visit any retail outlet of the service provider to which they are planning to switch. At the retail outlet, consumers will fill out a Mobile Number Portability application, which requires a valid Qatari ID to complete. Number porting typically takes one working day once the application has been completed.
