CRA Assigns 189 Temporary Frequencies for Qatar MotoGP and Motocross Championship

Approvals also include 1,115 different types of radio equipment, for temporary use by the organizer, teams and the media during the event at Losail Circuit.

The Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) has met the substantial radiocommunication requirements of the “Grand Prix of Qatar MotoGP” and “Motocross” Championship with temporary frequencies assignments. CRA approved 1,115 different types of radio equipment such as walkie-talkies, wireless microphone systems and wireless cameras, and 189 different frequency channels for Losail Circuit Sports Club as organizer of the events.

Grand Prix MotoGP is the high profile premier motorcycle racing World Championship that receives pan-global TV coverage. Clear, high quality and interference-free operations are essential for both the teams racing in the competition and for broadcasters. CRA played a major supporting role in line with its national mandate, which includes managing scarce resources such as the radio spectrum.

CRA managed all assignments relating to the use of radiocommunication equipment during the Qatar MotoGP and Motocross Championship for smooth operations of the Losail Circuit Sports Club as organizer, racing teams and media agencies, including Dorna Sports as the exclusive commercial and television rights holder.

With 11 teams at the Qatar MotoGP 2016, 8 teams at the Motocross Championship and multiple international broadcasters covering the races, significant preparation and planning was required to service the radiocommunication needs of these two events. CRA played its part to contribute to the success of the Qatar MotoGP 2016 and Motocross Championship, meeting the challenges set in a professional manner with all necessary approvals granted quickly and efficiently.

Approvals were granted within a short time period to meet the events’ needs and CRA also extended its full support for the timely release of imported equipment shipped to Qatar in cooperation with the concerned authorities in Qatar.

For the benefit of organizers of big events that require use of radio communication devices and temporary spectrum frequencies, CRA has made available relevant forms and guidelines in its website at the links below:
